I just recently learned a bit about Howrah Bridge located in Kolkata, India. This bridge is very famous because of the man who fought to keep it up, Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore was a poet, playwright, philosopher, composer and artist who was hated by the British because of his insightful teachings. He escaped many times from death, which kept coming at him because of the assasins hired by the British. When he finally got caught, he was at the bridge, with the key to its opening in hand. With his final bit of courage, Tagore dropped the key into the Ganges river, running below the Howrah Bridge and when the British caught him, they first cut his hands off so he could no longer write any of his teachings down and then they killed him. That bridge was renamed Rabindra Setu on June 14, 1965 in memory of Rabindranath Tagore.
